1. Introduction

MRI is a non-invasive imaging technique developed to visualize the body’s internal structures. It has been used in diagnosing health issues and has been around for more than 30 years. The principle of MRI, as it may be described, is as follows: MRI forces atomic particles to oscillate in a fashion that makes swinging magnetic radio waves. The motion of these nuclear magnetic moments produces a small magnetic moment. When a magnetized body is placed in the field of the MRI scanner, they align with the magnetic field. After applying a radiofrequency (RF) pulse to your body, the scanner scans and measures the energy levels at different points. The device can then design changes to DNA that will alter these energy levels so that there are transitions between lower and higher spin states. Once the RF pulse is given, the nuclei return to their equilibrium state (relaxation), releasing their absorbed extra energy and emitting an RF signal. The RF scanner detects the unique properties of this signal and can create an accurate 3D scan of the body. MRI contrast agents typically make images brighter while allowing more certain structures to be seen. This new technology makes it possible to precisely track cells in a specific body part. MRI allows tracking of engrafted cells and is helpful in regenerative medicine, allowing for non-invasive monitoring of neurological responses.
